Children could be growing into a generation of savvy credit card users, according to new figures from Natwest.
Children could be growing into a generation of savvy credit card users, according to new figures from Natwest.
The institution found more and more young people are displaying sound financial skills, with 84% of those questioned by the Natwest MoneySense Panel revealing they keep a close eye on their funds.
Maxine Norris, head of Natwest MoneySense for Schools, explains increased exposure to money matters in the wake of the credit crunch could be at the root of changing attitudes.
She says: "I think that obviously we are living in a different climate from last year.
"Parents do try and protect their kids from doom and gloom, but I'm sure that they can't help but pick up the recession from TV and media and things like that."
One way this has affected young people, Ms Norris adds, is to make them more realistic in their financial aspirations.
The panel found children were 25% less needy than 2007 when discussing how much money a month is enough to make them happy.
