Virgin Money is to enable users of its Prepaid Mastercard the chance to pay monthly.
The new tariff has been designed to help customers choose the best deal for them and it will be available alongside the pay as you go option.
Those using the pay monthly prepaid card will be charged £4.75 each month, while both tariffs involve a start-up charge of £9.95 and a credit card fee of 2.5% (minimum of £2) every time they are topped up. Debit card top-ups and direct transfers incur no extra levies.
Spokesperson for Virgin Money Grant Bather said prepaid cards can be really effective for people who like to set a limit to their spending.
"With users only able to spend what they have topped up onto the card, the prepaid option could be particularly useful for parents keen to give their children some money," he added.
Other products offered by Virgin Money include credit cards, mortgages and car insurance.
