Virgin Money: New York is the priciest city for UK tourists
According to Virgin Money, New York is the most expensive city in the world for British tourists.
The credit card provider looked into the standard costs of a two-day break in several popular cities and found New York to be the priciest for holidaymakers on a weekend break.
New York is a popular city for tourists wishing to go on a shopping weekend, using credit cards and other payment methods to make purchases not available to them when at home in the UK.
According to Virgin Money's survey, visitors end up spending £527.44 for two nights in the city.
This is in comparison to £141.25 for two nights in Bangkok.
Second and third most expensive were Milan and Moscow, with London coming in at ninth place.
Grant Bather of Virgin Money travel insurance commented: "While going further afield might feel more expensive, tourists can recoup a lot of extra expense because of the value for money in cities once you arrive. A two-night stay in Milan is over three times more expensive than in Bangkok."
Virgin Money is currently offering a Virgin Atlantic American Express credit card that allows users to earn frequent flying club mile points for every £1 they spend on the card.
