Use credit cards 'for appropriate purchases'
Credit card customers have been advised to make certain they use their cards for appropriate purchases.
An article by Erica Sandberg on web resource CreditCards.com recommends consumers think about what they swipe for on a daily basis.
Should it be the case that everything from groceries to mortgage payments are put on credit cards, it may be time to make a change, she suggests.
The sector commentator notes: "While one of the primary perks credit cards offer is the ability to delay payment, interest-free, for at least a couple of weeks, this inherent convenience can also make them too tempting to lean on."
As such, she recommends people put cover small, daily expenses - such as magazines, fast food and toiletries - by using cash or their debit cards.
They should leave more costly purchases to credit cards, as they could benefit from the payment protection such payment types provide.
Ms Sandberg's comments follow the publication of data from Apacs, which suggests 97 per cent of adults in East Anglia own plastic cards.
