Two Christmas Days could stretch consumers' budgets to breaking point
Around half of all Britons will celebrate not one but two Christmases this year as they flit between family and friends.
Research carried out by credit card company American Express has found that, while many people will be looking to rein in their spending, they will still look to celebrate as much as possible.
Indeed, it is estimated that 49 per cent of people will enjoy the traditions of Christmas Day more than once, for instance by having several lunches with different family members or friends.
Notably, however, with the average Briton spending £200 on hosting on Christmas Day, one in four of those polled admitted they would be keen to let others do the work and, more importantly, splash the cash.
Commenting, Julie Hay of American Express advised consumers to consider making use of rewards credit cards over the festive period so as to recoup at least a little of the cost.
Meanwhile, IMRG has predicted UK consumers will use their debit and credit cards to spend around £186 million on online shopping on Christmas Day alone.
