Tourists 'spent less on their credit cards in Cyprus this year'
Foreign credit card holders spent a total of 17% less this year, according to Reuters.
The number of transactions on credit cards in August, which is typically the most popular time for tourists to visit the destination, fell by 15% compared to the same time last year.
The decrease in spending is due to the financial crisis, as Brits and other holidaymakers cut down on spending on vacations, the news wire suggested.
The number of credit card transactions overall fell by 2% this year so far.
Meanwhile, there has been a reported increase in popularity of gastro-holidays.
According to TripAdvisor, 2% of those polled said they stick to familiar dished when dining on holiday, while 86 per cent said they rarely or never eat at fast food chains while on vacation.
