Top shops 'give super service'
Waitrose is the shop customers are most likely to head to in order to splash some cash or make some purchases on their credit cards, according to the results of a new survey.
Research carried out by consumer watchdog Which? indicates the chain's sister firm John Lewis was the second most popular outlet.
The survey gathered the opinions of more than 14,000 people and found that the quality of service provided by staff was a major consideration for consumers when it came to enjoying a shopping experience.
Major gripes included unhelpful and unknowledgeable sales assistants.
The editor of Which? magazine Martyn Hocking said the collapse of firms such as Woolworths and MFI is demonstrative of how tough it is on the high street at the moment.
"While slashing prices might get customers through the door, we know that shoppers value those stores that make shopping a pleasurable experience."
Which? was founded more than 50 years ago.
