The Post Office: 1 in 5 parents with children abroad visit them
Credit Card provider the Post Office has released a new study revealing as many of a fifth of parents who have children living or holidaying abroad said they had visited their child in order to broaden their own horizons.
The research found a total of 32% of those over 65 said they had taken advantage of a family member living abroad or in the UK and visited them, or plan to go see them this year.
Rachel Croft, Post Office head of travel insurance, said one of the reasons children can enjoy taking a gap year is using it as a chance to get away from their parents.
It seems sometimes children do this only for their parents to tag along, she continued.
"For parents, being able to stay with their child whilst they are living abroad means they can holiday for less, but often leads to them travelling to new places and holidaying for longer, making it even more important to have adequate travel insurance in place," Ms Croft advised.
She recommended the Post Office's multi-annual travel insurance policy, which has been extended to those over 65.
The Post Office also currently offers a credit card with an interest rate of 16.9% APR typical variable.
Credit card holders can enjoy 0% on purchases for the first three months from the date on which the account is opened, as well as 0% commission on shopping overseas.
