The number of Brits' seeking debt advice doubles in January
The number of Britons seeking debt advice doubles during the month of January, it has been revealed.
David Rodger, managing director of national debt advice and education charity Debt Advice Foundation, stated that more UK consumers require help with their finances following a period of excessive spending over the festive period.
Mr Rodger advised those in debt to analyse their financial commitments each month and see how much they can afford to repay to their creditors in order to get back in the black.
He said: "This can be done by subtracting their essential living costs such as rent or mortgage, council tax, gas and electricity, insurance and travel to work from their monthly household income."
His comments follow the publication of a report by the Post Office which shows that over 12 million people will spend the first month of 2012 relying on their credit cards to pay for everyday essentials.
