Tesco Travel Money revealed that more holidaymakers are opting for self catering this year because it may save them money and four in ten intend to spend less on entertainment, for example on going out to bars and clubs.
However, the credit card provider has suggested that one area in which holidaymakers are failing to make savings is with their holiday money.
According to the research, less than half shop around for the best deal on foreign currency.
The credit card provider has suggested that travellers can save money before they set out on vacation by using a Tesco credit card to buy foreign currency.
Tesco credit card holders receive Clubcard points and do not have to pay a cash advance fee when buying foreign currencies.
A spokesperson at Tesco Travel Money said: "Getting a good deal on your foreign currency can make your holiday money stretch a lot further so it makes sense to shop around."
Tesco Clubcard credit card holders receive 0% interest on all purchases for 12 months from opening the account. They pay 0% on balance transfers for six months from account opening, and a 2% fee on balances transferred in the first four months.
