HSBC is launching its 2009 student bank account, with an optional fee-free student credit card.
The credit card has a limit of £500 and users can enjoy up to eight weeks interest-free credit if they pay the balance in full and on time.
Credit card applicants must be over 18 and lending is subject to status.
Other perks include two years free annual worldwide travel insurance if account holders deposit a one off payment of at least £250 into the account between 1st August and 31 October this year, during the first year of their studies.
Additional features of the account which may be useful to students are online budgeting tools, an ATM alert when the overdraft limit is about to be exceeded and an interest-free overdraft of up to £2,000.
For those above university age, HSBC offers a credit card with 0% for 15 months on balance transfers within 30 days of opening the account, with a 2.9% balance transfer fee.
There is no annual fee on the card, which offers 16.9% APR variable after an introductory period.
