Store covers cost of credit card error
The importance of remembering to check credit card statements has been reinforced by an incident involving H&M.
One of the high street's favourite fashion chains, H&M had been hoping to enjoy good publicity this week after announcing an increase in profit and plans to create 7,000 jobs at new stores around the world.
However, a report in the Mirror focused not on the retailer's success, but on a recent credit card processing blunder.
A mistake by the chain led to a number of customers paying by plastic being charged twice.
However, because the double payments did not show on receipts, the shoppers did not become aware of it until they received their next statements.
The newspaper suggested the problem could lead to some consumers incurring charges, but H&M moved quickly to reassure people who feared they may lose out.
"We took immediate action to rectify it and will be covering any additional charges to customers," a spokesman said.
