Schools 'should offer financial education'
Financial education which could include learning about credit cards is so important it should be taught in schools, according to a leading provider of investment managing products.
Laith Khalaf, pensions analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said that everyone should be taught how to manage their finances.
The analyst made the comments following the release of a survey by HSBC which revealed that over half of the respondents had never had any form of financial education.
More than a third of those polled said they had never had any form of professional financial advice.
Mr Khalaf warned that due to a lack of financial education, people don't have the financial skills to make the best decisions.
"Whether we like it or not people have to be responsible for their own retirement and a lot of the time they are doing that blind without the knowledge they need to do that," he said.
Credit card provider Abbey is running financial advice classes to 16 - 18 year-olds.
Celebrities such as England rugby star Danny Cipriani will offer career advice at the seminars.
