Sainsbury's credit cards: £246 million spent last-minute shopping on credit cards
A total of £246 million is likely to be spent using credit cards to do last-minute shopping this year, according to Sainsbury's credit cards.
Around 2.1 million people plan to put half or more of their last-minute Christmas shopping on their credit cards, the card provider notes.
However, the majority of these will not be rewarded for their credit card spending, as a third of plastic cards on the market do not offer rewards.
Head of Sainsbury's credit cards Stuart McKeggie said: "In these prudent times, we believe people are looking at ways to stretch their budgets and take advantage of some of the great deals on the high street and in supermarkets particularly.
"With our card they'll benefit further by earning points as they spend, points they can then redeem in store to purchase their last minute Christmas dinner items or family's presents."
The Sainsbury's credit card has a typical variable rate of 15.9% APR, with 0% for the first 12 months on Sainsbury's shopping.
Rewards can also be earned on shopping elsewhere when using the Sainsbury's credit card.
