Sainsbury's: Consumers plan spring breaks
Almost 13 million people plan to head off to sunnier climes before the end of February, according to a new study.
Research carried out by credit card provider Sainsbury's indicates those thinking about going abroad plan to spend an average of £881.83 each.
Collectively, this totals £8.5 billion.
However, 1.5 million people are planning to spend more than £2,000 apiece.
Londoners are most likely to go overseas before the end of next month (35 per cent), followed by people from the south-west (24 per cent) and south-east (23 per cent) of the country.
Meanwhile, Welsh consumers are least likely (12 per cent) to be taking a break before February finishes.
Sam Mars, travel insurance manager at the company, says: "It's really encouraging to see that people are still planning to get away despite the credit crunch, which just shows the importance of a holiday to the British public."
Meanwhile, insurance provider esure recently noted around 200,000 tourists are booking sooner rather than later in an attempt to get the best summer holiday deals available to them.
