Saga platinum credit card study: Brits will spend less on Christmas than 10 years ago

According to a study by Saga platinum credit cards, Brits are budgeting more this Christmas than a decade ago, spending 35% less than in 1999.

The survey also found that just 13% of those polled said they intended to use part of their savings over the festive period, in comparison to 31% ten years ago.

A total of £435 is likely to be spent on average on presents by adults in the UK, the research found.

Saga has recommended that those who are planning to use their credit card for spending over the Christmas period may want to consider its platinum credit card, as it has a low rate of interest.

The typical variable interest rate on the card is 11.9% APR.

Holders of this type of credit card are able to clear their most expensive debt first, Saga notes.

In related news, 8.7 million Brits are expected to use their credit cards and other payment methods during the pre-Christmas sales to pick up a bargain or two, research from LV= has found.
