Users of the Saga Platinum Credit Card have collectively saved £1.5 million on overseas card charges this year.
For customers who enjoy travelling, choosing a credit card with low or no foreign transaction fees can make their money go further. The Saga Platinum card, which is available to people over the age of 50, offers zero per cent foreign currency fees.
According to consumer magazine Which? credit card users can experience a foreign loading fee that can be up to 2.99 per cent.
Chief executive of Saga Services Roger Ramsden said: "Overseas charges could cost UK travellers millions each year and that money will be better spent buying that extra pressie on your winter break."
Before travelling abroad, credit card users at a number of banks should bear in mind that their bank may need to know if they are going on holiday. For security reasons, some banks may block cards automatically if they are unexpectedly used overseas.
