Remember "basic hygiene" when using credit cards online
Credit card consumers using the internet to make purchases must be mindful of "basic hygiene factors", it has been suggested.
Remember "basic hygiene" when using credit cards online
Speaking in recent days, Neil Munroe, the external affairs director at Equifax, said people should bear in mind the routine security measures they would use when doing anything on the internet.
These could include making use of passwords, firewalls and phishing filters.
He added he believed the credit card sector will take steps to ensure web-based purchases are as secure as possible, stating work is already underway to make certain the internet is as safe a place as it can be to carry out transactions.
Concluding, the expert said he thought too many security steps could make online credit card purchases inaccessible to people, but reiterated the need to be safe.
"You don't want to put too many layers in because it may well stop people using it but at the same time you have got to have some extra security in there otherwise fraud could possibly continue to increase," he concluded.
Equifax was established in 1989.
