Product launched to protect online bankers from fraud
Internet users need to know how to protect themselves when checking credit card statements and managing their finances online, NatWest and RBS have warned.
They have become the first UK high street banks to introduce a new online security system to help online bankers.
Called Rapport, the system works along side existing anti-virus software and firewalls and is downloadable for free from RBS and NatWest websites.
Other customers of the RBS Group banks including Coutts, Ulster Bank and The One account can also access the software.
Rapport protects valuable personal information during internet banking sessions by securing communication between customers and the bank.
Gavin Coull, e-crime prevention manager for RBS group, said: "Rapport is fast to download and easy to install, but most importantly it allows us to quickly and effectively react to emerging threats. It also enhances the effectiveness of our existing card security."
Over 500,000 people are already using Rapport, Mr Coull commented.
According to NatWest, antivirus software and firewalls do not always provide sufficient protection when it comes to identity fraud.
