Prevention 'key' to tackling card fraud
The best way to tackle credit card fraud is to concentrate on preventative measures, according to an industry expert.
Jack Wraith, chief executive officer of Telecommunications UK Fraud Forum (TUFF), recently told delegates at a telecoms fraud and risk conference that being extra vigilant and exercising caution are good steps towards combatting this type of crime.
He said: "One of the messages that will come out time and time again is prevention is what it's all about.
"If you can prevent it from happening you can save yourself a lot of heartache and a lot of resources and a lot of expense later on trying to catch up."
However, Mr Wraith conceded that stopping fraud is "not always possible" and requires investment to "have measures in place".
The 2008 fraud loss figures released this month by Apacs show card crime losses totaled £609.9 million last year.
