The postal strikes are likely to mean businesses will hear a lot of the old excuse for late payment 'the cheque's in the post' it has been suggested.
Nick Britton, editor, GrowthBusiness.co.uk said the strikes are likely to affect small and mid-sized businesses in particular.
However, businesses that use online banking or allow customers to use their credit cards for payments may not find themselves waiting round for cheques in the post.
According to a spokesperson for HSBC, the number of people who still use cheques is declining.
Spokesperson Tim Pie said: "Increasingly people are using internet transfers to pay bills. We used to always pay by cheque, you'd give your plumber a cheque as he was leaving.
"Trades people are increasingly using their online accounts to receive payments, and also to make them themselves."
However, credit card holders could be affected by the strike as credit card statements may take longer to be delivered than usual, it has been reported.
