Plastic cards credited with gizmo boom
Credits cards are inspiring an exciting new range of wacky gadgets, a blogger claims.
Writing on creditcards.com, Jeremy Simon says the practical shape and small size of cards is forcing inventors to scale down ideas to ensure they are equally pocket-friendly.
Among the new inventions taking their cue from the plastic cards is a solar-powered calculator.
Website PureModern expounds: "The slim form factor mimics the size and shape of a standard credit card and the raised numeric keys allow for a tactile feel during operation."
Other gadgets include a credit card that comes with a built-in security keypad and gift cards that double as audio speakers.
In related news, fashion designer Roberto Cavalli has also been inspired by bankcards.
Earlier this year Mr Cavalli released his own Mastercard-affiliated snakeskin credit card with bonuses for users including invites to catwalk shows and the future opportunity to chat directly to him on a special website.
