'Paying by credit card is the best form of protection against not receiving goods'
Credit cards are the best form of protection when paying for goods in advance, according to advice from Consumer Focus.
'Paying by credit card is the best form of protection against not receiving goods'
The new statutory organisation that campaigns for a fair deal for consumers recommended that those paying for goods in advance that cost between £100 and £30,000 should pay by credit card.
Using this method of payment would allow them to make a claim to their credit card company if the firm from which they are buying goes bust.
Shoppers are also recommended to ask the company in advance whether there is a legally required or voluntary scheme in place to guarantee the payment should something go wrong.
Where there is a scheme in place, consumers should find out about the level of protection it offers, it suggests.
The advice follows the release of new statistics from the organisation which reveals that nearly 1.8 million consumers have not received an order paid for in advance in the last two years.
According to the research, the main cause for not receiving goods is the company going bankrupt.
Consumer Focus aims to be the voice of the consumer and was created through the merger of three consumer organisations; energywatch, Postwatch and the National Consumer Council.
