Partnership aims to cut cash machine crime
The cash machine network LINK is teaming up with Crimestoppers in a bid to cut hole-in-the-wall crime.
Under the new initiative, rewards will be offered to anyone with information relating to debit or credit card crime at the machines.
As much as £25,000 will be handed out for significant leads and informants are entitled to remain anonymous.
Detective chief inspector John Folan of the Dedicated Cheque and Plastic Crime Unit (DCPCU) said: "Tackling cash machine fraud is a continuing priority for the DCPCU, and a joined-up initiative of this nature has our full support."
The move comes after LINK released new figures showing nearly two cash machines are targeted by criminals each day.
Last year alone saw an increase of 17% in incidents, with cash machine fraud costing an estimated £37 million in 2007.
In related news, an assistant bank manager in Scotland has admitted stealing more that £100,000 from his branch, the Daily Record reports.
The incident came to light after an autoteller machine at the Fife bank was found to be almost £20,000 short at the end of a day.
