Over 30m Brits set to buy Christmas presents online
More than 30 million Britons plan to buy Christmas presents online this year, according to new research.
The Royal Mail has published the results of a survey which shows that 65 per cent of UK adults will use their credit or debit card to buy gifts on the internet during the festive period.
Around two-thirds (63 per cent) of consumers are shopping for gifts online earlier this year, with more than four in five online shoppers revealing they have already made a start on their Christmas shopping.
Most chose to shop online early to help relieve the stress of the festive period, while around two million shoppers have ordered presents early in case they have to return and reorder the gift.
"Online shopping continues to grow and people are buying their Christmas presents earlier to take some of the stress out of their Christmas shopping or to spread the cost," said Nick Landon, Royal Mail's managing director for fulfilment and parcels.
"Christmas is our busiest time of year and we expect to handle a festive mailbag of around two billion items this year."
