'Online clothes shopping is gaining popularity'
Shopping for clothing online – using debit or credit cards for payment – is becoming increasingly popular, according to a leading authority on retailing in the UK.
'Online clothes shopping is gaining popularity'
Sarah Peters, a senior Verdict retail analyst specialising in fashion, said it was a smart move for UK retailers to go online.
Her comments follow news that clothing retailer Zara is to move online in the UK in time for the autumn/winter collection 2010.
H&M will also make the move to the internet, allowing customers to shop for the latest collection online using their debit or credit card without having to hit the high street.
Ms Peters said of the retailers' decision: "They have actually got a market now where most of the major players are online. Customers are really starting to look at online as a far more popular way of shopping within clothing and I think it's something that Zara and H&M had to do eventually; it's a good move for them."
However, she warned that for a large company such as H&M moving online is a huge operation because they have such big ranges and an international presence.
