OFT offers online shopping tips
Consumer confidence in online shopping is growing, according to a survey by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
The organisation intends to do even more to grow confidence in spending online, which is usually done by credit card or debit card.
Only then can the market reach its full potential, the OFT claims.
According to the study, over twice the number of people who shop online feel it is as safe as purchasing goods in store compared to 2006.
John Fingleton, OFT chief executive, said: "Online retailing is the future for many businesses and increasingly important to the economy."
Consumers must be confident online, otherwise online retailing will grow at a slower rate, Mr Fingleton continued.
According to ClickandBuy, online shoppers are more likely to buy from websites that allow them to pay in many different ways. It is believed that this is because it gives shoppers peace of mind that the site is authentic.
ClickandBuy suggests that if many payment options are available, the website may be more likely to have been vetted and cleared by multiple payment companies.
