OCR offers credit card lessons
A leading examinations body has launched a new module in its business qualification aimed at giving students a better idea of how to manage credit cards and other personal finance issues.
OCR's business, administration and finance diploma will include the extra unit to encourage youngsters to consider ways of avoiding debt and help them choose appropriate bank accounts.
The diploma as a whole combines theoretical and practical learning and consists of modules designed to teach transferable skills and how to apply them to the world of business and finance.
Peter Davies, OCR qualifications manager, said: "The media continually reports on the relatively low levels of knowledge and understanding of financial issues; for example, many people have got into debt and are finding it very difficult to pay off that debt.
"We believe that by teaching people how to manage their money in today's world will help to reduce the likelihood of such crises occurring."
In related news, the Personal Finance and Education Group recently suggested that "exposure to a technologically-complex financial world is turning children into 'money managers'" much earlier than their parents did.
