Newspaper offers advice to combat credit crunch crime
A British tabloid is urging cardholders to take care ahead of a predicted "credit crunch crime wave".
Newspaper offers advice to combat credit crunch crime
The Daily Mirror has compiled a list of safety steps to consider when using credit cards to protect against identity fraud.
Among these are common sense measures like covering PIN numbers when paying for goods or withdrawing cash.
Regularly checking bank statements is also highly recommended, with the newspaper warning: "Thieves can steal cash very quickly and you may not be protected by your bank if the theft goes above a certain level or if there's a delay in reporting it."
Other protective measures include setting up a PayPal account for regular online purchases to prevent passing on credit card details.
The newspaper's advice comes after the South Yorkshire Star reported some cardholders need better protection - from themselves.
According to the publication, a Barnsley man was recently fined for falsely claiming his credit card had been stolen after judging a Valentine's trip to Amsterdam too expensive.
