News for credit card holders: Sales may not reach 2008 levels
Huge discounts were available at many retailers last year due to excess stock caused by a change in shopping habits when the financial crisis hit Britain.
However, this year retailers have been more cautious about the amount of supplies they have available, according to the BBC.
Editor of Retail Week Tim Danaher told the news service that there would still be good bargains available with many shops trying to catch bargain hunters early.
However, he added that the sales would not be at the same level as those this time last year.
According to new research by Barclaycard, debit and credit card spending peaked at 12.48 pm on December 19th, as consumers rushed to the shops to finish their last-minute shopping.
