M&S Travel Money notes the South African rand has fluctuated considerably against the pound during the past year.
For example, in October the rate was 11.39 rand to a pound, in comparison to 14.69 in December 2008.
James Yerkess, M&S head of Travel Money, said: "Those who buy all their currency in one go next summer could find that the rand rate is particularly strong against sterling."
Getting a good deal on currency exchange can be useful for all types of holidaymaker or traveller who want to have more money to spend on their vacation.
One way in which travellers can lock into a good exchange rate is using a prepaid currency card.
Card providers include Fair FX, Caxton FX and O2, although some currency cards are available in US dollars and euros and not rands.
