MasterCard has been revealed as the latest sponsor to put its name to the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The event organisers have named the credit card provider as the Preferred Card and Official Payment System for the tournament - which takes place in New Zealand.

Rugby World Cup Limited chairman Bernard Lapasset said that the addition of MasterCard brought with it a level of prestige that could play an important part of the overall occasion.

"As a leading sponsor of global sporting and cultural events MasterCard has shown itself to be imaginative and visionary when activating sponsorship campaigns," he added.

Mr Lapasset went on to suggest one prime example of the company's credentials is the handling of New Zealand's national rugby team - who are known as the All Blacks.

The teams already qualified for the tournament due to finishing in the top three of their group include Australia, England, France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales.
