MasterCard has unveiled a new application to let debit and credit card holders find nearby ATMs.

The MasterCard ATM Hunter tool is available for free on the Apple App store and can be used by iPhone and iPod touch owners across the globe.

Searches can be focused on cash points owned by specific banks, or flag ATMs with special features such as wheelchair access or 24-hour withdrawals.

In addition to providing directions to the ATM, the MasterCard application also offers useful tips on how to avoid credit card fraud when using the machine, such as shielding PINs.

Cheryl Guerin, senior vice president of global digital marketing at MasterCard Worldwide, said: "MasterCard is focused on delivering innovative applications and services that help make life easier not only for MasterCard cardholders, but for all consumers."

Earlier this week it was revealed MasterCard has teamed up with foreign exchange specialist Travelex to introduce a Corporate Cash Passport for business travellers, which can be pre-loaded and tracked abroad.
