The appointment of a new president and chief operating officer at credit card firm MasterCard will allow the firm to grow and increase its value to customers, it has been claimed.

Current chief executive officer of Citi Asia Pacific Ajay Banga will join the company of August 31st, 2009, reporting to president and chief executive officer of MasterCard Robert W Selander.
Mr Selander commented: "I am very pleased to have Ajay join our senior executive team and partner with me to grow MasterCard's value to our customers, merchants, consumers and investors.
"Ajay's experience in diverse industries and diverse geographies will reinforce and strengthen our global competencies as electronic payments continue to accelerate worldwide."
Mr Banga's responsibilities in his present role include all of Citi Asia Pacific's business lines connected to credit cards, wealth management, consumer banking, investment banking and alternative investments.
MasterCard credit cards are issued by all major financial institutions in the UK and accepted at more than 24.6 million locations worldwide.
