People going away this bank holiday should make sure that their home is protected against burglars, according to advice from credit card comparison service Tesco Compare.
According to Tesco Compare, there are a few measures that people can take to ensure their homes are safe against unwanted visitors.
Holidaymakers should make sure that there is nothing to draw attention to the fact that no one is at home. For example, they should try not to leave curtains and shutters closed during the daytime.
Those going away for the long weekend could even disguise the fact that they are away by asking a neighbour to cut the grass or occasionally park in their driveway.
Saga has also advised students going away to university to keep a copy of their credit card numbers separately from their cards in case the cards are stolen.
Debra Williams from Tesco Compare said: "Whether going away on a day trip, for a long weekend, or for longer periods of time, avoiding any tell tale signs of your absence is essential and following these simple tips should help to keep any unwanted visitors at bay."
