Luxury spending attitudes 'have changed'
Credit card users and other consumers have changed their attitudes towards spending on luxuries, it has been suggested.
Sharron Livingston, editor of thetravelmagazine.net, said people are choosing to spend less money on expensive items such as holidays due to the current economic climate.
She stated consumers are still going on holiday but are taking shorter breaks and looking for bargains.
People are also looking for short break opportunities in Britain, which could be paid for using debit or credit cards.
Her comments are supported by a statement by chief executive of Hoseasons Holidays, Richard Carrick, in which he suggested Brits are currently more likely to holiday in the UK as a cheaper alternative to taking a vacation abroad.
Mr Carrick also predicted a growth in the UK holiday sector in the next 12 to 18 months, coinciding with a decline in overseas breaks.
"Apart from monetary concerns, other reasons include environmental, the fear of airline and travel agent failure and the hassle of airport security," Ms Livingston added.
