Internet warning for credit card holders
Credit card holders have been advised to be extra vigilant of their personal details following an internet leak.
The Daily Mail reveals search engine Google inadvertently published information relating to the credit card accounts of 19,00 British Visa, Mastercard and American Express customers earlier this month.
It is believed the details originated from the website of a foreign gang and were picked up accidentally by Google during a crawl of the internet.
The information has since been removed and a spokesperson for payments body Apacs said many of the cards had already been cancelled or had expired.
He added to the news source: "The banking industry takes every data breach extremely seriously. We'd like to remind all online businesses of their responsibility to store card details securely."
Earlier this month the government unveiled new measures to tackle credit card crime, including the launch of a National Fraud Strategy.
