According to the technical director of a company which assists in online and email marketing, demand for companies for ecommerce sites is "stronger than ever".
He commented that a few years ago, ecommerce was seen as an expensive enterprise but that this is no longer the case.
Companies can set up a payment method online so that customers are able to use their debit or credit cards to pay for goods online, without having to trek around the shops.
Technical director Simon Bird commented: "There are so many tools out there but companies can now get online and sell their products without having to spend huge amounts of money."
Companies with an online presence are also open to a UK and international audience, he pointed out.
His comments follow the release of a report by eMarketer which showed that millions of people are likely to use their debit or credit card to spend a greater proportion of their retail budget on the web
