Heineken joins Mastercard at Rugby World Cup
Credit card provider Mastercard is to be joined by brewing giant Heineken as sponsor of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
According to stuff.co.nz, Heineken's commitment will be formalised at a function in Wellington, New Zealand to be attended by the country's prime minister, John Key.
Mastercard unveiled its sponsorship last month after previously supporting football's World Cup from 1990 to 2006, after which it was controversially replaced by Visa.
However, Rugby World Cup chairman Bernard Lapasset is thrilled the company is tackling his sport instead.
"As a leading sponsor of global sporting and cultural events, Mastercard has shown itself to be imaginative and visionary when activating sponsorship," Mr Lapasset said.
The tournament will be held in New Zealand with the final, bronze final and both semi-finals due to be played at Eden Park in Auckland.
