Grimsby cardholders warned 'be vigilant'
Credit card holders in northeast Lincolnshire have been told to be on their guard this month following a spate of card crime in the area.
The Grimsby Telegraph reports police have received numerous calls about cloning incidents and have launched an investigation.
Newspaper estimates suggest as many as 70 cardholders may have fallen victim to thieves, who are believed to have copied card details from a chip and pin machine in the Grimsby or Cleethorpes area fitted with an electronic reading device.
A spokesperson for Humberside Police said: "We would advise that members of the public are vigilant when using chip and pin machines or cashpoints and report any suspicious items or equipment to police.
"We would also advise anyone who thinks they have been a victim of card skimming or card cloning to contact their bank as soon as possible."
Earlier this week the Daily Mirror advised cardholders not to let their plastic get out of sight in shops or restaurants and to only carry necessary cards in case wallets or purses are stolen.
