The flamboyant TV star regularly maxes out his credit card on impulse purchases, reports the Daily Mail, before ringing his mum for financial reassurance.

He explained to the newspaper: "My mum is my life barometer - she's amazing. If I see a fabulous jacket, I'll ring her up and tell her and she'll say, 'Oh, you've worked hard for it', and that's it - bought.

"I need no more justification as long as Mum says it's fine."

The fashion guru added he could be a very rich man now if it wasn't for his wayward spending.

"I have so much wastage because I'm such a terrible shopper," he confessed, "I do spend anything I've got."

Another fashion legend with a penchant for plastic is designer Roberto Cavalli, who recently launched his own Mastercard-affiliated credit card in Milan.
