First Lady's London fashion prompts shopping frenzy
Michelle Obama's wardrobe on a recent state visit to London has prompted a credit card splurge on identical clothing items back in America.
According to the New York Daily News, retailer J.Crew experienced a 3,000% rise in webpage viewings for the outfits worn by the first lady at G20 engagements last week.
Among these was a cream-coloured cardigan modelled on a tour of a cancer centre on Wednesday (April 1st), which sold out within hours.
The news source states there is currently a 200-person waiting list for the item, priced at $298 (£199).
It is not the first time Michelle Obama has made credit card news; in January this year a Los Angeles Times blog debated whether the first lady should purchase clothes herself or borrow them from designers and stores like other celebrities.
Writer Monica Corcoran asked: "Do you think the first lady should be calling in gowns and gems or pull out that credit card and rely on her own wardrobe?"
