FairFX: Prepaid cards can offer a better foreign currency exchange deal
It is possible to get a better deal on foreign currency exchange with a prepaid card, according to foreign exchange business FairFX.
Using prepaid cards cuts out the need to handle cash, which can be very expensive, the card provider suggested.
Stephen Heath, chief executive at FairFX.com, commented that it is very common for holidaymakers to leave buying their travel currency until the last minute.
He warned, however that the later travellers leave off buying currency, the more expensive it could end up being.
Mr Heath stated the worst place to exchange money can be airports where the exchange rates are not good for holidaymakers and the advertising can be very misleading.
According to a recent survey by Thomas Cook Foreign Exchange, 48% of those polled said they could be paying more than they should for their currency when they are abroad because they are unaware of debit and credit card charges.
"Our volume in customers has increased tenfold, and people are just starting to realise that if you plan ahead and are willing to use the internet for foreign currency, then you will get a better deal," Mr Heath said.
