Carrying a card abroad is a lot safer than using cash, an expert has warned.
Expert expounds security benefits of currency card
Stephen Heath, chief executive of FairFX.com, insists a wad of bank notes make tourists and business travellers easy targets for opportunistic criminals.
Instead he advises people use currency cards for foreign payment issues, which can be pre-loaded online using a debit or credit card.
Mr Heath says: "It is much more sensible than loading up on 500 euros at Heathrow airport only to arrive at your destination and get pick-pocketed."
He adds that, as well as security benefits, a currency card is also a more convenient method of payment and offers far better exchange rates than can be found at bureaux in UK travel hubs.
Recent FairFX.com analysis revealed travellers buying foreign currency from Heathrow Airport will get less than parity at just 0.9831 euros to £1.
