Expert: Apply for a special travel credit card for your holidays
UK consumers who are planning to go overseas should avoid using their everyday credit card and instead apply for a specialist card, according to a financial expert.
Rosie Murray-West, writing for the Telegraph, urged Brits to ditch their UK credit card when on their travels due to the high foreign exchange fees.
She said: "Your ordinary credit card is unlikely to be a great candidate for spending abroad, no matter how great its benefits in other situations.
"Instead, use a specialist credit card for spending abroad and you'll miss out on the approximately three per cent 'load' fee that most cards add."
Ms Murray-West added that one of the best credit cards for spending money abroad is the Halifax Clarity, which does not charge a foreign exchange fee anywhere in the world.
Furthermore, Halifax Reward current account holders which apply for the Reward Clarity card are eligible for a £5 reward each month they spend over £300 in the UK or abroad on the card.
