Rewards for shopping, hotels, travel and motoring are just some of the schemes on offer with reward credit cards, the Guardian reports.

Consumers who spend a lot of money at one particular retailer, could consider a "cash-lite" credit card, it suggests, which gives credit card holders vouchers to spend at that store.

The M&S Card, for example, gives holders a £1 M&S voucher for every 100 points they accumulate.

The Tesco Clubcard credit card gives users one point for every £4 spent on the card. Points are worth 1p if spent at Tesco or up to 4p if used to accumulate vouchers for occasions such as days out.

Motorists could also take advantage of a rewards credit card, with the new AA credit card or General Motors card.

The latter could be advantageous for those planning to buy a new Vauxhall or Saab, the paper notes.

The AA rewards credit card, meanwhile, offers points on all card purchases.
