Credit card holders in Suffolk have been warned not to give out their details over the phone by the police, according to reports.
'Do not give out credit card or bank details over the phone' Suffolk residents warned
Police issued the warning following news that at least three elderly people in the area have fallen victim to a telephone scam in which a bogus caller asked them to reveal their bank details.
The caller claimed to work for BT and asked for card details to pay off an outstanding phone bill.
Police have advised residents not to give out personal information over the phone.
The police claim no genuine company is likely to ask for these details or demand that consumers pay for bills over the phone in this manner.
Nottinghamshire residents have also been issued with a similar warning.
A Nottinghamshire police spokesman told the Star: "This has been taking place elsewhere in the country, and now seems to have made its way to Nottinghamshire.
"Everyone should remember they shouldn't give out any personal or bank details over the phone."
