However, marketing director at Webtrends Colette Wade suggested that those who share a computer should make sure their online purchase information is not shared, especially when buying presents in the run up to Christmas.
Her comments follow news that online shopping over the Christmas period using debit or credit cards surged this year.
An estimated 4.3 million shoppers were predicted to go online on Christmas Day, spending over £120 million.
A total of £102 million was spent online using debit and credit cards on Christmas Day last year.
Those planning to do online shopping during the sales may want to consider using a rewards credit card, such as the American Express platinum cashback credit card.
This type of card allows holders to earn cashback on their purchases.
The typical variable rate on the American Express platinum cashback credit card is 19.9% APR.
