Credit cards double up as gig tickets
A new initiative launched in Canada means it is now possible to attend music concerts without a ticket.
Bands hope the paperless system - whereby credit cards are scanned instead of gig-goers having to show a stub - will reduce the number of touts outside venues.
Holidaymakers visiting Canada can see the new scheme in action as of October 12th, when metal band Metallica take to the stage at Winnipeg's MTS Centre.
So far the paperless ticket system only applies to a small proportion of all tickets sold through Ticketmaster, usually reserved for the best seats in the venue.
Nevertheless, Brian Pike, Ticketmaster's chief technology officer, insists the credit card technology will curb some touting.
"It's trying to make sure that the person who bought the ticket wants to attend the concert," he told the Canadian Press.
In related news, credit card provider Barclays last month announced it is teaming up with Orange to develop mobile 'wave and pay' payments on purchases of up to £10 at participating retailers in the UK.
