A new corporate credit card is being piloted by Barclaycard which will enable Deloitte employees to gain remote network access.
In addition to its functions as a standard Visa corporate card, the new technology will enable those who work for Deloitte to access their company IT system via a virtual private network (VPN).
It will also be compatible with Verified by Visa, which could prevent some forms of credit card fraud and identity theft.
Barclaycard won an award for best use of innovation within Visa systems or services for its work on the pilot scheme, at the recent Visa Europe Insights event.
The credit card has a keypad and LCD screen embedded into it. This will allow users to enter a passcode and pin.
It is hoped the new credit card will reduce costs compared to using a separate device for remote network access.
Barclaycard is also researching contactless payment technology. According to the company, 98 per cent of contactless cardholders say that the payments are easy to use.
Of those asked, 88 per cent of cardholders told Barclaycard that contactless payments cut down the amount of time it would normally take to buy a coffee.
